On-site machining service
For mobile production, repair and maintenance
Thanks to our mobile milling machine series (PM series), we are able to process very large components by milling and deposition welding.
The mobile machine was developed to achieve the rigidity and accuracy of a machine tool even after transportation and under unstable machining conditions.
As a special service, we offer on-site machining worldwide across the entire range of applications as a service with locally available METROM systems in America and Europe.
On-site processing service
Industries served
The possible applications of our mobile milling machine are virtually unlimited. Since 2008, we have already offered our service to several industries worldwide. We already have a great deal of expertise in the repair or machining of turbines or other large toolmaking components for the oil and gas industry.

Use case: Toolmaking
Mobile on-site machining for tryout, repair and modification of large forming tools in the production environment

Use case: Containers & reactors
Production of sealing surfaces and finished flange connections including drilling, thread cutting and sealing groove milling

Use case: Oil & gas industry
Precise dry machining of demanding pipe connections made of duplex steel, Inconel and other special alloys

Use case: Offshore
Mobile processing of cast and additively manufactured large structures for wind and tidal power plants and offshore installations

Use case: Gas & steam turbine
On-site repair and modification of turbine rotors, turbine housings and other critical turbine components

Use case: Crane and bridge construction
Precise machining of long carrier components with exact positioning of several reference surfaces in relation to each other

Use case: Re-manufacturing in mining

Let’s make your production better.
Our Pentapod 5-axis CNC machines are designed to boost productivity, increase efficiency and improve quality. We help you take your manufacturing process to the next level.
The 4 steps of on-site processing
From analysis to on-site processing with our mobile milling machine
1. Preliminary work
Mobile CNC machining is a very efficient method for repairing or overhauling very large components. The disassembly of large defective parts, shipping and repair time can represent a considerable cost and time burden for the machine operator. The remanufacturing of such components is also very costly. This on-site CNC machining workflow should help you with your decision.

2. Machining system
Preparations for the transportation of the machines are underway. Our mobile CNC machine, the PM series, has been carefully designed for seamless transportation and can be transported by air in AMJ containers or trucks. The transportation naturally also includes the control cabinet, the necessary cabling, the machine frame and all tools and aids required for the project.
3. Preparation on site
For mobile processing on site, we require equipment for unloading: a forklift with a load capacity of 8 tons and extended forks or an overhead crane with a load capacity of 5 tons. Depending on the machine variant (e.g. PM200), unloading can also be carried out manually using a pallet truck. An electrical connection with 400 V, 50 Hz frequency, 32 kVA load and 63 A fuse protection is required. A 6 bar air pressure supply and an optional network connection for remote maintenance are also required. These specifications ensure smooth setup and functionality of the machine and enable efficient use at your site.

4. Machining
Once the previous work steps have been completed, CNC machining begins, which is monitored by an experienced machine operator and ensures comprehensive processing. A laser scanner measures the parts and ensures high precision. If continuous machining in one place is not possible, assistance may be required to relocate the machine or component. After successful milling or additive machining, the machine is dismantled for further use. This systematic approach ensures efficient CNC operation and provides precision and adaptability in the machining process.
Innovative CNC machines. Outstanding results.
Pentapod 5-axis machining centers: trusted by leading companies.

“The machining center from METROM is an optimal addition to our Center for Generative Joining. The additively manufactured components here can be machined downstream by the METROM system. Thus, SLV Halle GmbH can map the entire additive-subtractive process chain of 3D machining.”
Steffen Keitel – CEO SLV Halle GmbH

“For the Hybrid Manufacturing department of the BTU Cottbus – Senftenberg, METROM represents a forward-looking project partner within the WI+R alliance. METROM, with its unique CNC machines, forms the basis for one of the most flexible and sustainable repair factories worldwide.”
Prof. Sebastian Härtel – BTU Cottbus

“We successfully cooperate with METROM in joint research projects. We are enthusiastically using a Pentapod system from METROM. Especially the possibility of hybrid component production by means of SEAM 3D printing and machining in one system expands the range of applications enormously.”
Dr. Martin Kausch – Fraunhofer IWU
